What ADHD Therapy in Toronto Actually Looks Like: From First Contact to First Session
You have been meaning to reach out for six months. Maybe longer. And every time you think about it, something stops you. The uncertainty of not knowing what to expect. The suspicion that maybe it will not help. Or just the sheer friction of doing one more thing when your energy is already running low.
I hear this constantly. So let me make the first step as concrete as possible.
What Happens When You Reach Out
You fill out a short intake form. It covers the basics, what brings you to therapy, a bit of background, consent and logistics. Nothing overwhelming. It takes most people about ten minutes.
From there, we book a free 15-minute consultation call. This is not a therapy session and it is not a test. It is a conversation. You can ask me whatever you want about how I work, what sessions look like, whether I think I am a good fit for what you are dealing with. I will be direct with you. If I do not think I am the right person, I will tell you that too.
What the First Session Actually Looks Like
If the consultation feels right and we decide to move forward, the first session is about building the map.
We talk about your history, where you grew up, your relationships, how school and work have gone, what has brought you to this point. We talk about what you have already tried and what has not worked. We talk about what you actually want to be different, not in a vague sense, but specifically.
There is no pressure to dive into the deepest and most difficult material immediately. We are building something that needs to be able to hold weight. That takes a foundation.
What Ongoing Sessions Look Like
Each session starts with a check-in: what has come up since we last spoke, what patterns you have noticed, any moments that felt significant, good or hard. From there, we follow the thread.
Sometimes that means going deeper into something we have been exploring. Sometimes it means working on a specific skill or tool. Sometimes it means naming something that has been sitting beneath the surface for weeks and finally has enough language around it to be said out loud.
The work is a mix of insight and practice. Understanding why, and then building the capacity to do something different.
Practical Details
Virtual sessions are available to anyone in Ontario at $175 per 50-minute session. In-person sessions are available on Tuesdays at Inspired Wellness, 822 Richmond St W, Unit 102, Toronto, at $180 per session. Receipts are provided after each session for insurance reimbursement. Check with your provider whether your plan covers psychotherapy specifically.
The Hardest Part Is the First Step
Most clients tell me after their first session that it was easier than they expected. The anticipation of starting therapy is almost always harder than actually starting. The uncertainty, the not-knowing, the imagined awkwardness. Most of that dissolves in the first ten minutes of a real conversation.
If you have been sitting on reaching out, this is a straightforward invitation to take the first step. Book a free 15-minute consultation through the website, or reach out directly by phone or email. No commitment, no pressure, just a conversation to see if this is the right fit.
